Strategies[]

This exercise is easy to get accuracy badges because division is easily performed as long as one has knowledge of the standard algorithm. The speed badges are easy because user can use some tricks to simplify these questions.

  1. A calculator goes against the spirit of the problem, but can increase speeds.
  2. The answers all seem to come out as terminating decimals in the worst case.
  3. Answers must be given in decimal form, not fractions.
  4. If user can think of the division problem as a fraction, reducing the fraction can increase their speed nicely and is in the spirit of the exercise.

Real-life Applications[]

  1. Division is used in every-day life to display information to consumers.
  2. Decimals are very common in shopping. Price tags, food labels, and receipts all contain decimals.
  3. At gas pumps, decimals are used to show how much gas is pumped and much it costs per gallon.
