Exercise Name: | Compare shapes |
Math Missions: | Early math Math Mission |
Types of Problems: | 3 |
The first instance of Compare shapes is under the Early math Math Mission. This exercise introduces basic geometric shapes and analyzes some of the properties of these shapes.
Types of Problems[]
There are three types of problems in this exercise:
- Roundness and corners: This problem asks the user to decide which shape is round or has no corners.
- More sides and corners: This problem asks the user to choose the shape that has more corners or sides.
- All sides same: This problem asks users to determine which shape is regular, i.e., has congruent sides.
Strategies[]
This exercise is easy to attain accuracy badges and speed badges. The questions are short to read and there are only two possible answer choices, one of which is right and the other is wrong.
- In problem type one the round shapes can be circles or ellipses (ovals).
- In problem type three the common regular shapes used are squares, rhombi and regular pentagons.
Real-life Applications[]
- The ancient Egyptians from over 4000 years ago were very good at shapes and geometry. Every time the Nile burst its banks and flooded the planes, they had to use geometry to measure their gardens and fields all over again.
- Architects use shapes to construct houses and skyscrapers.
