Drawing polygons 2 is a topic under the 6th grade (U.S.) Math Mission. This exercise uses a coordinate plane graphing utility to create polygons.

Types of Problems[]

There is one type of problem in this exercise:

  1. Create the requested shape on the plane: This problem asks for a polygon to be created on the coordinate plane. Users are expected to plot the points to make the shape required subject to the given constraints.

Create the requested shape on the plane

Strategies[]

Ability to move in the coordinate plane quickly will increase the chances of doing well on this exercise. The utility itself is well-designed and interactive which is helpful.

  1. Although this problem is not as straightforward as being given the points to plot, the points are still in convenient places. It is not necessary to do any fancy work to find the required points.
  2. Don't forget to connect the last point back to the beginning point to close up the polygon.

Real-life Applications[]

  1. The ancient Egyptians from over 4000 years ago were very good at shapes and geometry. Every time the Nile burst its banks and flooded the planes, they had to use geometry to measure their gardens and fields all over again.
  2. Architects use lots of geometry when building bridges, roofs on houses, and other structures.
