The first instance of Creating picture and bar graphs 2 is under the 3rd grade (U.S.) Math Mission. This exercise practices creating bar charts and picture charts.
Types of Problems[]
There is essentially one type of problem in this exercise:
- Create a graph from the chart of information: This problem provides the student with a chart of information. From the information they are tasked to create either a bar chart of a picture chart based on the information. The picture on this page is a picture chart type problem.
Strategies[]
This exercise is easy to get accuracy badges and speed badges. The problems can be performed quickly and the needed multiples are not high.
- There is no option for bar or picture, it is predetermined.
- Once students have made one bar in a picture chart situation it is sometimes easier to make new collections of pictures based on the height of the initial bar.
- On the picture charts, students will not need a fraction of a picture.
- A mouse can help this problem go more quickly, rather than a touchpad (unless students have a stylus).
Real-life Applications[]
- The bar and picture graphs in this exercise can be in real-world situations.
- Data and statistics appear in news reports and in the media every day.
- Statistics can be seen more frequently than calculus in every day life.
