The Exponents exercise is under the 6th grade (U.S.) Math Mission, 7th grade (U.S.) Math Mission, Pre-algebra Math Mission, High school geometry Math Mission and Mathematics I Math Mission. This exercise practices exponents and understanding how they represent repeated multiplication.

Types of Problems

There are two types of problems in this exercise:

1. Select the equivalent expression: This problem presents an exponential expression. The user is asked to select an equivalent expression from a list on the right, or to indicate that none of the expressions are equivalent.

2. Evaluate expression: This problem presents an exponential question. The user is asked to write the correct answer in the appropriate spot.

Strategies

This exercise is easy to get accuracy badges as long as one is familiar with the ideas of exponentiation as repeated multiplication. The speed badges are also easy because one is a multiple select and the numerical answer will be a relatively small integer.

1. Research has seen numbers as high as ${5^3=125}$.
2. The selection of "none of the above" happens often, so be careful to read the answer choices carefully before making a selection.
