Comparing positive and negative numbers on the number line is an exercise under the 6th grade (U.S.) Math Mission. This exercise practices the relationship between positives, negatives and opposites.

Types of Problems

There are three types of problems in this exercise:

1. Select all that hold (abstract): This problem provides a number line with some points abstractly labeled with ${a}$, ${b}$, ${c}$ and ${d}$. There is a list of possible correct statements from which the user is expected to select all statements that are true.

2. Select all that hold (specific): This problem provides a number line with two rational numbers labeled. There is a list of possible correct statements from which the users are expected to select all statements that are true.

3. Adjust line and select: This problem provides a line with a scale that can be changed. After changing the scale, the user is asked to plot a given point and then select some statements that hold from a multiple select list.

Strategies

This exercise is hard to get accuracy badges because special care needs to be taken when looking at the abstract problem in particular. The speed badges are hard because of the time it currently takes to be accurate.

1. Negative numbers are used to represent land below sea level.
2. Negative numbers are used to describe values on a scale that goes below zero, such as the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales for temperature.
