The topic Variation in samples used to appear under the 7th grade (U.S.) Math Mission and High school statistics and probability Math Mission. This exercise compares samples based on their variation.
Types of Problems
There are two types of problems in this exercise:
- Answer the questions and determine which is more reasonable: This problem describes the collection of data by several groups of people. The user is asked to answer several questions based on collecting the data and give answers in the space provided.
- Do the counts: This problem provides a statistical display of data. It asks users to find the counts of certain events based on the display.
Ability to read dotplots and an understanding of variation and measures of variation assist with doing this exercise correctly and quickly.
- A larger sample with more information is almost always preferable to smaller samples, always on these exercises.
