Types of Problems
There is one type of problem in this exercise:
- Word problem with two numbers: This problem asks the student to solve a word problem with two numbers. Sometimes they will need to add, and other times they will need to subtract. There are problems of this type with pictures and without pictures. This level starts to introduce 'red herring' or useless information (see picture).
This exercise is medium difficulty for accuracy badges because of the care that needs to be taken while reading the problem carefully. The speed badges should be considered hard to attain especially with current timing expectations.
- Students need to be careful of additional unused information in some problems.
- Addition is used for adding amounts of an object, like adding money totals.
- Subtraction is used by businesses to see how much money they make minus the money they spent for profit.
